It’s been a busy week, hence the reason our “Tuesday blog” is being published on Friday.
Tuesday was meant to be just another day, until my mom woke me up at 6:30 saying “come here, SKYE, come HERE”. Half awake, groggy, and with stars in my eyes from standing up too fast, I walked to the door of my childhood bedroom and followed her into the living room. “What?” Holding up her phone, she reads off a text from my brother. I was awake after that.
The thing is, we came down to NC on Saturday to be around when my brother and sister-in-law had their baby. They were expecting to be induced on Tuesday, so when we went to bed Monday night we were all excited but didn’t expect anything to happen until late Tuesday. Boy were we wrong.
Apparently they went in on Monday night, and Dylan texted mom Tuesday morning to let her know what was going on. That was why mom woke me up, why I couldn’t go back to sleep, and why we very excitedly ran in to wake Dad up and tell him. We were going to have a baby in the family!
Elsie Grey Page was born Tuesday evening, after we ran around Wilmington all day waiting for her to arrive. She’s the reason we didn’t get a blog up on time this week, but who can blame that face?!

I’m super pumped to be an aunt, and to snuggle the heck out of her anytime we’re in town. Cheers to a new little babe to brighten all of our days!

In other news, we are back on the boat very happy about it. It’s a bit chilly, but we’re picking up our heater today so we won’t have that problem for long. Our mast has yet to be re-attached due to the crane being broken, us being out of town, and as of this morning when we were supposed to get it put on – too windy.

We’re a bit bummed because we were really hoping to get the boom back up, lines re-attached, and sails on for a few good days next week, but that doesn’t seem to be shaping up. However, we are getting a few things done while we wait.
Steve drilled a hole yesterday through the toe-rail for our new stanchion that will eventually become a gate with our lifelines. New portholes are coming in. So, overall we’re getting things done!
Honestly, I’ve been putting off writing this week’s blog. I’m not quite sure why, besides the fact that we’ve been busy and then driving all day and then quite tired. You know when something happens and you’re anticipating it and then it does happen? And then you are exhausted because of the sheer anticipation of it all? That was pretty much what happened once Elsie was born. Emotions were high, excitement was through the roof, and then, the next day we all went back to normal. I just felt drained.
So, take this blog, and my tardy publishing, as a sign to take time for yourself when you need it. Recharge your battery. Eat foods that make you feel warm and cozy, drink lots of hot tea, or whatever you do when you need to feel full again. That little break was good for me, so I’m glad I took it.
As we tie up this blog and say “see ya” until Tuesday, I have one more thing to say.
Go vote.

Cheers,
Skye
