Bottling Up Sunshine

Happy Tuesday, readers!

Today I’m writing to you from my childhood bedroom.  I made the trip to NC this morning to gather some things for our road trip next month!

I pushed the trip back because I may or may not have given myself a minor concussion.  Unfortunately, a boat is a prime place to bump your head.  In fact, I’ve mentioned to Steve quite a few times that we should take a class on concussions in case we need to know what to do while underway.  I was putting things away and stood up right where the porthole hatch was and really bonked my head good.  I’m okay now.  Other than a bad headache and a tiny nauseous spell yesterday, and after a very restful day, I’m feeling much better.  My head is a little sore, but that’s about it – thank goodness!

Thank goodness for Steve making me chocolate chip pancakes for dinner. Nothing lifts my spirits quite like good food!

Anyway, we’re gearing up for our big road trip this September-October! We’re headed to see Steve’s sister in Chicago, then doing some camping near Yellowstone, and then we’ll be house & dog sitting for friends in Wisconsin! This will be my first trip up that way, so I’m stoked. The leaves should be changing while we’re there, so that’s another thing to look forward to.

Packing for these things is always funny for us.  We have almost all summer clothes on board right now, minus a few light jackets and pants.  So I’m back at my parents to grab some warmer clothes, because Wisconsin and Chicago in October can be a bit chilly.  The thing is, we really have no clue what the weather will look like.  It could be warm or it could snow.  So, we’re trying to be prepared for everything while also packing all of our things in one bag.

Luckily, we don’t have much room as it is, so we’ve gotten pretty good at packing light.  The key?  Layers!

Speaking of cooler weather, we’ve had some beautiful weather here the last few days.  While Steve and I were in Urbanna last week it rained quite a bit which brought in a cold front.  It’s been a high of 80°F most days with lows of 60°F!  Our sail back was perfect weather in the sun, but I wore my sweatshirt in the shade!

Weather like this makes me so happy. It’s warm enough to be outside and enjoy the sunshine while not burning up. It makes me want to be outside even more than normal, and that’s already a lot. We did it big this weekend and took Buoy to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens on Sunday and it was BEAUTIFUL. Life felt so good.

I kept wanting to pinch myself.

It was one of those days that you just want to bottle up and keep with you anytime you need a swig of happy.  That day was a little bottle of sunshine, and I loved every bit of it.

There’s just something in the air that makes things feel good, happy.  It’s simultaneously the best weather to cuddle up with a book and the best weather to walk around town all day taking in the beauty.

There really is no full translation of how lovely days like that are, but you know what I mean, right?

Okay, enough of my ranting about beautiful weather and days.

I hope you all are having a beautiful day and continue to have a great week.  Stay tuned for next week when we have *hopefully* finished a lot of boat projects and thus can leave on another voyage North!

Cheers & talk soon.
