Hello there, readers! Hope all is well. This past week has been a good one with beautiful weather (until our very rainy day today), sleepovers on the boat, and finally putting the jib back up!

We’ve been enjoying this 90 degree weather, but it has been a bit muggy with the incoming rain, so we’re not so upset that it has cooled off for a few days. However, we were able to escape the heat this past weekend and went for a sail! This was the first sail with our jib in MONTHS and it felt so good to finally get some good wind in our sails and just cruise all afternoon. We had so many dragonflies on board that Buoy couldn’t decide which one to follow! It was a beautiful sail and really made us excited for the upcoming summer sailing season!

Our current plans are to sail around the Bay in July, so fingers crossed we find good weather during that time and can go North for a little while. As always, our plans may change, but we’re hoping to at least make a few overnight trips happen if nothing else.
I’ve been thinking a lot about our lifestyle and how we, and so many others nowadays, are learning to live life before they retire. Now more than ever people are figuring out that they do not have to retire in order to travel or sail or live in a van. You can do it NOW. All it takes is a little bit of planning! It’s funny to think about, because sometimes I truly forget how off the beaten path we are when it comes to how we’re living. Just the other day I was on the phone with a friend from college and she asked what our plans were and after I told her she responded with “girl what is your life?!” I then was like, oh yeah, it is kind of crazy isn’t it. But here’s the thing, I wouldn’t want it any other way. Maybe we don’t know where we’ll be in a month, but isn’t that part of the fun? No matter what we’re doing we’re trying to live life to its fullest. Isn’t that what all of this is supposed to be about? I don’t know about you, but I don’t think we’re put on this Earth to follow society’s path or do what everyone else expects of us. We’re supposed to live! We’re supposed to make life feel good to us and do things that make us feel happy and joyful and lucky to be alive! I guess what I’m trying to say is that life is only so long, so why the heck aren’t you living it to its max capacity?
I know that sometimes this is hard. Maybe you can’t move to your dream place because it’s too expensive, or maybe your job won’t let you be fully remote, or maybe it’s just hard to figure out where to start. The thing is, you don’t have to do everything at once to be happy and to live your life to the fullest. I mean, we still have things we want to do and who knows if we’ll ever get to all of them, but we’re trying. Doing small things every day that make you happy, that makes life good, that makes everything around you a little brighter – that is what makes life worth it. Those things get you out of the bed in the morning or make you smile on gloomy days. The small things make the big things worth it, and eventually it’ll all remind you just how good life is.

At least once a day Steve or I will just blurt out “I love our life,” or something along those lines. Maybe we say it because we enjoy our beach walks with Buoy and skipping rocks in between the waves, or maybe it’s because we were reminded that we are living the way we want to and not what is expected of us. Maybe we just say it because we love each other. Who knows, but everytime I hear it or say it, I know that it’s true. I know that the hard days, when the boat was broken or the work was just too much to handle, are worth it, because we are here living this crazy, unpredictable, absolutely lovely life together. And quite frankly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

I hope you find something good today that makes you smile, and I hope you find something every day from now on that makes you realize just how good life can be.
Happy Tuesday and thanks for reading.
Cheers!
Skye
This is something I’ve been thinking a lot about lately. There seems to be a plan that everyone is expected to have after they finish school, but there are so many paths that you can take! Seeing people like you who have taken a path that isn’t often taken really inspires me to live life the way that I want to. Thank you so much for posting and sharing your life.
