Hello dear readers!
In the last week, we’ve started a new year (hello, 2025), Steve started his new job, and WE GOT AN APARTMENT. That’s right. After attending a viewing yesterday which was also Steve’s first day of work (and my Grandma’s birthday which felt like a good sign), we decided to submit an application to rent an apartment.
They do it differently here. In the States, renting typically occurs on a first-come first-served basis. However, in Holland you are selected for a viewing, and anyone at that viewing can submit an application to rent. Then, the landlord/owner of the property selects the candidate(s) that they prefer. Luckily, we were those candidates!
This place is dreamy. Sunny, lots of natural light, spacious, and not only is it an easy transit or bike ride to Steve’s job, but it’s a 20 minute bike ride from the beach! I know I know, that isn’t our biggest pro about getting this place, but for two former (and always at heart) sailors we are stoked! It’s also a short walk from restaurants and shops, so I know we’ll love it.
Below are a few pictures I took when walking to the viewing yesterday. Dreary, but dreamy!

This is a BIG thing. It feels like things are coming together. We’re working on getting our BSNs, and with those we can do all of the things we need to do legally – like sign up for residency in the municipality we live in, get Buoy’s pet passport, etc.
I’m so excited, can you tell? Things are happening! We live here! (I still can’t believe it!)
It’s crazy how something can make life feel so much easier. Finding a home was something we were pretty stressed about, so we are so excited that this is working out.
Anyway, I just wanted to give a small update.
Cheers!
