Hello dear readers, are you still out there?
It’s been months since I’ve written anything other than work-related stuff, besides my vows, so here I am- a little rusty, but I’m back!
Did you see how I just threw “vows” in there all casual-like? That’s right! A month ago yesterday, Steve and I said “I do” as we stood on the bow of our sweet SV Batland.

The next day, we celebrated with a proper ceremony and reception with all of our friends and family. It was everything we wanted it to be and more, even with the non-stop rain and pivoting of plans. But you know us, we know how to change course due to alllll of our boat and life experiences. So, now, as a married couple (!!!) we’re taking on winter together.

We are currently in NC, without the boat, as the engine has not been working since August. In August, on our sail back to Norfolk from Urbanna, our engine went out and has yet to be back to normal.
We actually sailed (motorless) all the way to Kilmarnock for our wedding in October, and got pulled in the rest of the way by TowBoatUS. Now, a month later, we still aren’t sure what’s wrong.
We’ve changed the oil filter, the fuel filter, we have new injectors and a new starter. We’ve fixed a compression problem. Now, we just wait until a professional can tell us what to do! Again!
So, our plans on going South for the winter have changed. On a trip to the boat to see if it would start, the fridge had turned off. Since we’d been gone, we didn’t lose too much, but we did realize that our solar panels were not keeping up with our energy pull. Granted, this was after a very cloudy week, so they weren’t getting much sun to pull energy from, but still. So, we realized that if we also had the starlink, our computers, and our phones plugged into the solar power, there’s no way it would support it. So, instead of spending tons of money trying to make it happen, we decided to change plans. Another road trip it is!
We will be in AZ this December, and then we’re traveling to CA for a month of skiing! That’s right! The summer-loving, “we like the ocean”, warm blooded humans that we are, are spending a MONTH in cold weather and snow! And honestly, we can’t wait!
I really want to sit down and layout more details about our lives over the last few months, but for now, I just wanted to get myself in the hang of writing again!
Truthfully, I’ve wanted to write more personal stuff lately, like the blog, but I’ve just been burnt out after working on a computer and writing all day for work. So, I’m going to do it more now— for myself, and whoever is interested in reading about it.
See you soon!
Skye
For now, enjoy the last few months in pictures:
